you take me out to pasture now A reading from Genesis 39 As we prepared for our trip to Croatia, one place kept turning up in nearly all the travel literature we read: The Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb. It’s an odd concept, to be sure. A museum dedicated to the breaking of bonds. Apparently the idea formed when the creators went through a break-up of their own. As they went through all their belongings, deciding who would get what , they joked about forming a collection ; an exhibit of artifacts that told the story of relational demise .   So they put out a world-wide call for artifacts from debris of past relationships. And as pieces flooded in, they quickly had enough material to form a traveling exhibit.   …So many were the entires, though; and so popular was the exhibit, that eventually a permanent location had to be established to house all the artifacts! Now, when you enter the museum there’s a note explaining how we have al

and everyone belongs A reading from Genesis 18 & 21 I read an interview with one of my favorite directors, speaking about how he’ll insert humor into serious moments in his movies, He said he does it as a way of telling the audience, “it’s going to be okay .” And we need to be reminded of that. Don’t we? So often in life our hearts are beating so quickly we can barely think straight! Did you you notice that’s how Abraham is behaving? And, in light of the fact that we all need to be reminded, 'it’s going to be all right ’ more often; let me tell you a joke : A guy is walking through the woods and he comes across a bear that hasn’t eaten for

What we don’t know, though—and we hate not knowing things—is why Adam and Eve were forbidden from eating the fruit from that particular tree. After all, it’s fruit from the tree of knowledge !   …Knowledge of good and evil, yes. But still knowledge! And what could ever be wrong with knowledge ?!? Knowledge is one of our most prized virtues. Isn’t it? We even have an adage, a proverb , about it. Those who don’t know their history are, what? Yes, doomed to repeat it. And that sounds good…   But if that proverb were on a true or false test, if we wanted to get the question right, we know we’d have to mark a “ false ” next to that saying. False! That adage is pa
