on the body that i'm in when the put me in the ground A sermon on Nathan's sermon to King David : After putting it off for too long, we finally got around to moving the last remaining artifacts at old Trinity.   Although I must say, we’re still engaging in a bit of dithering . There remain artifacts that need to be claimed and relocated. We’re also probably trying to hold on to a few too many items that would be better left parted with in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection.   And I know it’s hard . But if you’ve been dragging your feet, I must tell you, the time is here . Say your goodbyes . Arrange a time to drop by old Trinity. Say some prayers . Give thanks . Reminiscence. Shed a tear . Claim an artifact. Take the one you claimed home, for heaven’s sake! Yes, this will bring up a lot of emotions —maybe some you’ve been trying to avoid . But trust me, you’ll be thankful you faced these feelings when the demolition forever turns that page in our history...

it was crime at the time

but the laws we changed 'em A sermon on the anointing of David You know those movies where the “earth faces its darkest hour”? The ones where a band of heroes must be assembled. The movies where the best and brightest are brought together for an impossible task. You know those movies? Well, today’s passage isn’t one of them. In fact, this passage is about as near the opposite from that as you can get! This is because we’re dealing with the Bible . And the Bible isn’t for Tinseltown. No , the Bible is for real life. In scripture today, we see the young nation, Israel, facing a crisis . Instead of assembling a squadron of heroes , though, every person brought on the scene, from first to last, is an absolute loser ! There’s gun-shy , Samuel. The know- nothing Jesse. And the, not important enough to be on the stage at the big moment, David. But , spoiler alert, in that room full of nobodies , God had hidden the future! Let me set the scene: Fledging Israel is staring down ...

& i hope when you think of me years down the line

you can't think of one good thing to say A reading from passages of 2 Samuel 11 & 12 : There’s a big gap in today’s lesson. Isn’t there?   Although , I don’t really need to worry too much about that, after all we all know this is a part of David’s history.   We know David didn’t just sleep with Bathsheba. That once he found out she was pregnant, he first to get her husband, Uriah, to come home from battle and get a little intimate with his wife. When Uriah wouldn’t go for that, David tired getting Uriah tipsy, to impair his judgement. When Uriah still wouldn’t take the bait, David arranges Uriah’s death. And in a particularly heartless move, has Uriah deliver the message himself.   The gap in our lesson isn’t the problem. You all already know this. The problem is, what to do with this passage of David’s history… David, the youngest son chosen by God to be the great king. David, who fought Goliath because Goliath was taunting the God of Is...

feel it out until you know it isn’t meant for you (i'm so free) A sermon from David's anointing, 1 Samuel 16:1-13 You know those movies we watch?   The ones where “earth faces it’s darkest hour.” The ones where a cast of heroes must be assembled. And the greatest minds brought together. The ones with a scheme “so crazy it might just work.”   You know those movies you watch? …Well, today’s isn’t one of those movies.   In fact, today’s scripture is about as near the opposite to that as you can get. Because this isn’t Hollywood, this is real life. And the message of scripture is news that has bearing on real life … In scripture today we see the young nation, Israel, facing a crisis. Instead of squadron of heroes, though, every person assembled to ‘save the day,’ from the first to the last, is a loser ! There’s the deposed , Saul. The gun-shy , Samuel. The shaking in his boots, Jesse. And the, not even important enough to get an invite, David...
