listen clearly, you don't have to try A sermon for when everything ends but nothing changes : I have a confession : I’ve been looking forward to today . For me, today is the culmination of   Easter. And Easter isn’t even over yet! How lucky are we?!? We are, of all people, most blessed . As you know, today is colloquially known as “ low Sunday.” And the reason for that is obvious enough today: gone are the Easter crowds ! In fact, absent are even the most regular of worshippers today . Only the church rats turn up on the Sunday after Easter or Christmas. And for all I know, some of you are only here today because you have to be! Maybe you’re a counter or deacon .   But you know what? I like Sundays like this . I admit it; I’m a bit of a church rat myself . In a way, this makes me less than an ideal pastor. I’m probably a bit too ambiguous about the crowds . Luke 24:44-53: Prayer : Lord, may the words of my lips and the meditations of all our hearts receive your blessing. Amen. Today is Ascension Sunday. Today we remember that day when Jesus ascended into heaven. Today is that Sunday when we remember that Jesus has gone to heaven; the goal of the Christian life… The goal of Christian life… Yeah, that’s it; to make it to heaven. But wait, wasn’t it just last week that Pastor Carol preached about the lack of any rapture theology in John? If the rapture is not in the Bible why does Jesus go up into heaven to get ready for the end then? I mean, it seems pretty clear that heaven is the goal. I mean Luke ends his Gospel by depicting Jesus going off to heaven. That has to be the goal then, right? Heaven must be the goal, and that is why Jesus ascends their after his resurrection. But, if heaven is the goal why didn’t Jesus just suck up all his disciples up to heaven with him? Hmm . Okay, okay. Obviously there are many ...
